PCIT is an evidence-based program for children between the ages of 3-6 who are exhibiting emotional or behavioral challenges. PCIT utilizes an earpiece and one way mirror that allow parents to learn specialized skills in the moment, while being coached by their PCIT therapist. PCIT focuses on providing quality behavioral management strategies to parents and caregivers while also increasing positive and nurturing interactions between parent and child.. PCIT is comprised of two phases. The first phase focuses on building positive interactions, while also learning skills to build self-esteem and increase calm, attentive and favorable behaviors. The second phase focuses on specific skills to manage negative behaviors and increase compliance. Data is routinely collected and trace so that both the therapist and parents are able to recognize changes over time and focus on any continuing areas of need.
